Our mess
The doctors' mess has always been a pivotal space for juniors to be well acquainted with. The mess stems back to days when doctors were on duty for long hours, but not necessarily working. There had to be somewhere doctors could retreat to whilst waiting to be called and this space was the doctors' mess. With many changes in the structure of doctors' working lives since these long shifts existed, one could theoretically argue the mess is an outdated anarchism. Yet, this is simply not the case.

The doctors' mess is an unsung resource. It is a space for doctors to both work and relax. The mess is in almost constant use by doctors and is used by many different grades of doctor, attracting doctors and dentists from many different departments. In the mess you can network, conduct a handover, catch up on emails/admin/chase results on the computer, eat lunch/tea, change into or out of stubs, await and answer bleeps and catch up with colleagues on breaks. It is a key space for those on night shifts or evenings when the canteen and shops are closed and there is no where else to take a break.

The doctors' mess functions by it's members each paying £7.50 a month toward's it's bills. The mess has a lot to offer and this is a small contribution for what we have. You may have signed up when you started work here by ticking a small box on the new starter's form. If not and you now want to subscribe, this has to be done by emailing Payroll, stating your wish to subscribe.
